Calling All Artists…
If you’re an artist – whether your medium is film, oil paints, acrylic paints, pastels, or watercolors – you might not realize that you could design your own Christmas card. But that’s just what thousands of artists all around the world do each and every holiday season: use their own artwork for their annual Christmas card.
Traditionally, Christmas cards featured works of artwork, either of the Holy Family or of typical Christmas scenes of merriment and happiness. As time went on, Christmas card artwork evolved to include more general symbols of nature and wintertime, like hollyberries, stars, snowflakes, and snowmen. When Santa Claus entered the picture, he brought along others to appear on cards with him, such as reindeer, elves, Christmas tree ornaments, angels, and tasty treats like candy canes. In recent years, families have begun using family photos as the main feature of their Christmas cards, where sometimes the family members (right down to the family dog!) are wearing holiday-themed gear such as Santa hats.
Featuring your own artwork on your family Christmas card is a lovely way to add an extra special touch to your annual holiday greetings. Faraway friends and family are sure to be dazzled by your talent and will also feel honored to have some of your artwork of their very own, to display in their own homes. It’s an easy way to share not only holiday spirit with friends and family, but also to have your own version of an art show, just via the U.S. mail instead of in an art gallery.
