For Your Photo Christmas Card, Know The Difference Between a Snapshot and a Photograph
If you are the person taking photos that will be incorporated into a photo Christmas card, you’ll want to make sure you know how to operate your digital camera as efficiently as possible.
That’s why my next few blog entries here will explore some digital camera basics, techniques and tips.
Many differences exist between snapshots and photographs. The very fact that you have purchased or are considering the purchase of a digital camera rather than a very inexpensive alternative indicates that you would like to learn more about how to elevate your camera work from snapshots to photographs.
You need not be an experienced photographer to make this leap. Your digital camera makes it easy for you to take photos that brim with technique and, dare we even say it, artistry.
To rise to that level, it will be very useful for you to learn some basics about how to customize your digital camera for the type of photo you want to take. Through the use of easy onscreen menus and buttons that (unlike your television remote control) actually do what they say they will do, digital cameras make it easy for you to control these factors and master these basics
On most digital cameras, a mode dial (which I show you at the upper right of this post) enables you to specify what type of image you want to shoot or view. You can select these modes on other cameras through the on-screen menus.
1. Select the photo icon is Tto shoot still images.
2. To view or edit images, select the view icon.
3. To shoot movies, select the movie camera icon.
4. Photograph a fast-moving subject with SShutter speed priority mode.
5. Change the focus and background with the Aperture mode.
6. Access the shutter speed controls with the Manual exposure mode.
The mode dial on many digital cameras also enables you to set up the way in which your camera will focus your photos. Shutter speed priority mode configures your camera to shoot fast or slow objects. Aperture mode helps to bring fuzzy background objects into clearer view. You can specify these settings in manual exposure mode.
