Gifts for Gardeners: Create a Gardening Gift Bucket
Gifts for gardeners are welcomed at the holidays, despite the cold weather. Believe me, we are always thinking of spring! This gift is more of an assembling type of gift with a bit of personalization. I also recommend including a personalized holiday card with a photo of from their garden or yours.
The most challenging part of this process is getting seed catalogs ordered. So, go online now and request a couple of seed catalogs. Two of my favorites are Nichols Garden Nursery and Seed Savers Exchange. You will want to include these in your bucket.
Next, find a suitable container. I suggest a 5 gallon bucket, easily purchased at any home improvement store. Or you could find a special planter, basket or box. Keep in mind that the size of the bucket will directly affect the size and amount of items you will need to put into it.
Brainstorm items to include in your bucket. Consider:
- gloves
- carpenters apron
- trowels, bypass pruners, garden shears
- packets of seeds
- gift certificate to a local or online nursery
- latest gardening book
- small houseplant
- personalized gift certificate for your help with heavy labor
Of course, there are literally hundreds of items that you could include. Some more expensive than others. To personalize your gift, I suggest taking the gardening apron and adding their name or a gardening expression. If you aren’t handy with fabric paint and a paintbrush, you can buy stencils or paint pens. Just make sure the products you use are fully washable. That apron will certainly get dirty!
Any gardener will find this to be a very thoughtful gift…and it might help them make it until spring!
