Homemade Holidays: Personalized Hair Accessories

There are so many creative ways to make the holidays affordable and also personalized. If you have someone in your circle of friends or family that wears hair clips, why not make a personalized set for them? It is a project that can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it.

Start by thinking about the person who will receive the gift. Consider the age, interests, style and hair length. Maybe a little sleuthing is in order to detect favorite colors and fashions. I suggest that you pay particular attention to the type of hair personalized holidaysyour friend or family member has…no sense giving a tiny clip to someone with waist long hair!

Before going out to buy clips and decorating items, search through the Sunday paper. Most craft stores have a circular that offers a discount or a matching coupon for other stores. Michael’s and JoAnn’s almost always have something and JoAnn’s honors Michael’s coupons. Hair clips can be found almost anywhere, so a wide variety of coupons could apply here.

When purchasing decorating items, think about function as well as form. Glitter on a hair clip will lead to glitter in the hair, and everywhere else for that matter. Try things like ribbon, silk flowers, mini seasonal decorations, using a glue gun to affix. Also, consider purchasing spray paint for custom colorization. Craft stores carry spray paint that create a different texture, which could be fun.

Creating hair clips as gifts for kids is especially fun. Using favorite television characters or school mascots is always a hit. In fact, creating school centered clips might be a small side business for you. Definitely a bonus when your homemade holiday gift actually makes you money!
