Giving a personalized Christmas card and a personalized lamp is a great way to show someone you care! This project involves a trip to the craft store for the lamp kit. But I encourage you to look around your house for glass jars or other containers that you can repurpose or reuse.

 Here’s what you will need to make the basic lamp:

• Lamp kit (with adapter to fit whatever container you are using)
• Glass container (clear glass is best for this project)
• Items to fill jar

First, choose the container, and for this project, it can be any kind of clear glass container. But, you need to find the container before you purchase the lamp kit, as you may need an adapter to make it fit appropriately.

Next, choose what you want the theme of the container to be. There are a lot of choices…you can:

• Pick a theme that matches your friend’s decor
• Make a seashell collection
• Create a container of special “found” items from family trips
• Fill it with buttons, marbles, sea glass
• Fill it with dried flowers from last summer’s garden
• Fill it with small toys and trinkets for your child’s room
• Use layers of colored sand
• Fill with jelly beans or hard candy
• Christmas tree decorations, garland, cut outs from Christmas cards

There are almost endless posibilities for combinations between the variety of containers and the items you can put inside. A lamp made by you sends a message that you have invested time, thought and creativity into their gift.
