Just when I thought the excitement of St. Patrick’s Day had fizzled out, I was corrected when I dropped my son off at school this morning. I couldn’t believe how decked out the elementary school kids were. There was even one little girl who looked like that little girl on the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Except this little girl was dressed in green from the top of her head down to her toes.

When I was a kid, I was lucky enough to know quite a few people who had various kinds of dwarfism. People unfortunately were cruel and teased them endlessly. Some of them became bitter (understandably so), while a couple of them decided to make the best of being petite.

One St. Patrick’s Day this brother and sister (both having dwarfism) decided to dress up as leprechauns. They’re costumes were authentic looking in every way, and the fact that they both had red curly hair, made them look even more convincing.  They also decided to where a pin that said “Kiss me, I’m a leprechaun”. Each person who kissed them on the cheek got a gold coin (chocolate coin), until they ran out. Everyone at school got a kick out of it and ir became a tradition for many years to come. These kids even got the idea to do pictures and charge money for them. Kind of like Santa or the Easter Bunny. It even ended up paying for their college when the time came. Remember to kiss somebody Irish, for they tell me it’s good luck.
