Take Your Chrismas Pictures At Stonehenge In Australia?

Soon you will have the option as to which Stonehenge to take your Christmas card photos. You’ll even have two countries to choose from.

Entrepreneur Ross Smith is adding yet one more attraction to Australia. Ross has embarked on a new business venture and is actually building replica of Stonehenge on his property in Western Australia, that he hopes to have completed by Dec. 21st (The summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere). This Stonehenge will be named “The Henge”.

For the past five months, quarry workers have been blasting and shaping the granite rocks for this $1.26 million project. Ross has studied the original Stonehenge in great detail and plans to make it look just like the original. It will span 110 feet and include 101 granite stones arranged in an inner and outer circle, as well as a central alter. (Boy, will this throw off historians and archeologists a few thousand years from now).

The big difference between his and England’s, is that people will actually be able to touch it as much as they want. In fact they will be encouraged to do so. The plan is to attract 200,000 – 300,000 tourists each year and charge an entrance fee. It will even be open to weddings and events and include a children’s playground and an interpretive center.
