Use Christmas Cards for Christmas Ornaments
Christmas cards are great for making ornaments for your tree…or for someone else’s! There are several ways you can use the cards. You are really only limited by your own creativity.
If the card has a beautiful front panel, consider simply punching a hole in the top corner, pulling ribbon through the hole, then tying directly to the tree.
Another option is to look at your local craft stores for the pre-cut, flat wooden shapes. You can use a star, circle, square, up to you. Using that form as your foundation, add a segment from one of your cards, then use waterproof craft glue to seal it. Add touches of ribbon, glitter or other small trinkets to personalize the ornament.
Create a small decoupage ornament by starting with a plain glass ornament from your craft store. Then, cut cards into pieces appropriate to the size of the ornament. Use craft gule to affix and seal with waterproof glue.
If you have a piece of foam and two Christmas Cards, you can easily make a 3-D craft. Trace a pattern on the cards, then on the foam. Use craft glue to affix one card to one side of the foam. If you have decorative ribbon, create a hanging tab by cutting a small amount of ribbon and gluing both ends to the open side of the foam, making an upside down “u”. Finish by gluing the remaining cutout to the back of the project.
Creating a Christmas ornament out of a Christmas card can be as simple as using pinking shears to create a decorative edge, then hanging on the tree. It is a great way to repurpose cards from years previous and to save money on decorations.
