When it comes to photo Christmas cards, the picture has got to be authentic. It’s got to reflect who you are.  So turn on the personality.  It may be tempting to show a perfect version of family life where everyone looks their best. Resist this tempation. They have already got enough sickeningly perfect recaps of the year in Christmas letters. You know, the ones where everyone brags about the year and exaggerates.
You know what makes your photos most-loved? They show personality - yours. That’s because there’s no one else like you. If you capture some essence of who you are, that will show through in the picture.

Try taking some candid pictures of your family doing things they enjoy. Like eating and talking at the dinner table after everyone is full (I happen to love this time of chit chat after dinner). Or, in my family it was Sunday nights eating homemade carmel corn. Or playing badminton in the backyard in the summertime. I’d love having a Christmas card with an image like that.

These are “slice of life” shots. They are what make great newspaper photos. They will also make great Christmas card photos.
