Decorated Easter Eggs Can Tell A Story - Photo Christmas Cards
Did you know that some of those finely decorated Easter eggs you see actually tell a story? Like the one I saw as a kid that appeared to have Purple Heart, a cross, and some other fine details that obviously told a story.
During WW2 this very young couple (the lady who owned the egg and her husband) were separated when he was sent off to fight. Shortly thereafter she was informed that his entire troop had been killed. She was absolutely devastated, not just because he was gone, but because the baby she carried, the baby neither one of them knew was even a twinkle in their eyes before he left, would never know its father.
One Easter Sunday (apx. two years later), as she opened the door to go to Easter service, her “fallen” soldier was right there in front of her, walking up the sidewalk. She recalls thinking “that’s either a ghost, or I’ve completely lost my mind”. He was real all right. For some reason he had been presumed dead and when discovered alive by the military, he had been instructed, for security reasons, not to attempt contact with his wife. She told me “It was like he had been resurrected from the dead. And how appropriate it happened to be the same day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus”. The Easter egg was then created by a family friend as a symbolic memory for generations to come.
(This story reminds me of the movie Pearl Harbor, except in this case, she hadn’t fallen for another man.)
