Hard Candy Christmas
If you’re a true country music fan you may be familiar with Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Once Upon a Christmas”. If so, you’ve probably heard the song “Hard Candy Christmas”. Have you ever wondered what a hard candy Christmas is? After all these years of listening to it, curiosity got the better of me. I had to know what a “hard candy Christmas” was. I knew it had to be an expression for something and had an idea what it meant, but I had to find out for sure.
As it turns out, a hard candy Christmas is basically an expression for a bleak, difficult Christmas. It typically refers to financial hardships during the Christmas season. Families who were hurting for money would often get hard candy instead of gifts for Christmas. Apparently hard candy was cheap to make or buy. In some cases it was hard simply because it was old and stale.
So now when you hear someone use the expression, their having a hard candy Christmas, you’ll know what they mean. Although this has nothing to do with photo Christmas cards, I thought it would be a nifty piece of info for you.
Have a wonderful day.
