Two Stories Of Children Making Sacrifices To Help Others
The first one I heard of was when I recently attended a Jane Goodall seminar. It was announced that in the audience was a young boy who just celebrated his 9th birthday. On his birthday invitations he actually stated he did not want a gift, but instead requested the money that would have been spent on a birthday gift, be in the form of a donation to put towards Jane Goodall’s wildlife and humanitarian efforts. He ended up raising $500 which he then gave personally handed to Jane later that night.
The second story is of 10 year old Max Noel who had been adopted at the age of 3 years old from Russia, along with his older sister. Having come from an extremely impoverished background and living in an orphanage where they hardly had the bare minimum to survive, Max was bewildered when he received enough money from Christmas to buy a Wii.
Although he was young when he left the orphanage, a part of him remembers what it was like to have literally nothing. With this in mind, he decided to give $100 of his Christmas money to the school book fund, in order to give other children the opportunity have a new book of their own.
Mark explained, “Some kids don’t even have a book that’s never been touched,” he explained. “Like a blankey.”
Let these amazing children inspire you to open your hearts. So this year when you’re preparing your Christmas card photos and wrapping gifts, remember the children who have nothing.
